New Lecture: "We've Only Just Begun Changing the Future of Cancer Care"

We've added a new Lecture to the 2017 MCOR Lecture Series! Join us Tuesday, March 28, when Baptist Health South Florida will present an in-depth look at the full spectrum of cancer treatments and technology at the recently opened Miami Cancer Institute. The Institute is Florida’s only member of the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Alliance.

The Institute offers a full spectrum of cancer care, including:

  • South Florida’s first proton therapy center.
  • Chemotherapy and immunotherapy, including clinical trials.
  • Radiation therapy including standard radiation, proton, radiosurgery, Cyberknife, Gamma Knife and TomoTherapy.
  • Pediatric cancer services.
  • Center for Genomic Medicine and the Division of Clinical Genetics.
  • The Breast Clinic at Miami Cancer Institute.
  • Cancer Patient Support Center.

Meet the Speakers

Michael J. Zinner, MD, CEO
Dr. Michael J. Zinner is the Chief Executive Officer and Executive Medical Director of Miami Cancer Institute, Baptist Health South Florida. He also serves as the Moseley Professor of Surgery Emeritus at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Zinner is the former Surgeon-in-Chief of the Brigham and Women’s Hospital and the Clinical Director of the Dana-Farber/Brigham and Women’s Cancer Center and the Crowley Family Distinguished Chair in the Department of Surgery at Brigham and Women’s Hospital.

Minesh Mehta, MD, FASTRO
Dr. Mehta is Deputy Director and Chief of Radiation Oncology. He is an internationally renowned radiation oncologist, one of the world’s experts in the treatment of brain tumors, and a pioneer in the field of proton therapy. He previously served as the Professor of Human Oncology at the University of Wisconsin, Professor of Radiation Oncology at Northwestern University, and most recently, Professor of Radiation Oncology and Director of the recently opened Proton Therapy Center at the University of Maryland.

John Kerstiens, CPA, MBA

Mr. Kerstiens is Assistant Vice President for Clinical Operations in the Department of Radiation Oncology at Miami Cancer Institute. He began leading the department after joining the Institute in January 2015 and currently oversees radiation oncology operations at South Miami and Baptist Hospitals. Prior to joining Baptist Health, Mr. Kerstiens was employed by Indiana University/IU Health and was a member of the team tasked with developing its new proton therapy center, one of only three centers in the nation at the time.
