Merit Badges for Your Medical Center

Summertime is a busy time for the Medical Center staff and administration. In keeping with “best practices” for the Medical Center’s patients, several accreditations are renewed annually or periodically during the summer months.

This summer, the Center was reinspected by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC). This is a very thorough inspection conducted by independent surveyors. Some key areas they scrutinize include Medical Center protocols, safety, documentation, cleanliness, involvement of management and governance, staff training, clinical records, medication tracking, risk assessment on various levels and patient satisfaction.

The AAAHC's final, 83-page report contained outstanding news: The Medical Center was fully compliant in 14 of its 16 Chapters of Standards, with the last two -- general governance, credentialing and privileging -- graded at an exceptional level.

Comments in the AAAHC's final report include:

  • Patient safety is at the core of all policies and programs adopted by the Medical Center.
  • Clinical records are organized and medication reconciliation is particularly good.
  • The Staff are well-qualified and the organization goes above and beyond to create an atmosphere of integrity and excellence.
  • The Center does an excellent job of coordinating care across several points of care throughout the country, as many of the patients are seasonal and receive some level of healthcare services back home -- truly a tremendous coordination process and one which the organization excels at.
  • The CEO, Keith Young, keeps the governing Boards of both organizations informed via bi-weekly calls with the Board Chairs during the summer and monthly Board meetings during season.
  • The surveyor considers the Medical Center’s process the absolute best ever reviewed and encourages Mr. Young to share his best practices with other facilities, as it exceeded all expectations.

Also this summer, the American College of Radiology (ACR) inspected the Center's CT and MRI equipment. This inspection provides that the Center is delivering the highest level of image quality and safety. ACR certified that the facility meets requirements for equipment, medical personnel and quality assurance. For more information about ACR, click here.

With the high marks received by these two well-respected organizations, the Ocean Reef community can be secure in the knowledge that the Medical Center is providing the very best in healthcare services.
